I am not scared by the fact that there are small differences between the ancient manuscripts from which the Bible is translated. What would scare me is if there were differences, someone knew, and intentionally kept me from knowing.
On one hand, we have God inspiring humans to transmit a message to other humans. On the other hand, we have--well, the humans. As a result, Bible scholars can point to many places where one ancient copy of a biblical text differs from another. (These are called variants, by the way.) I am okay with that. I am fine that the humans involved in the process used "on" in one text and "onto" in another (for example). Why am I okay with that? Let me opine further.

Science Fiction, Science Reality - Treknologies in our midst

On June 3, 1969 the last original episode of Gene Roddenberry's Star Trek aired.  Yet, reality took many years—decades, in truth—to catch up to his speculative vision of future technology.  Many of these far forward thinking innovations—Treknologies—seen in the original series and the sequels that followed still, now thirty-six years later, remain on the cutting edge of society.
    It goes without saying that Gene Roddenberry and the rest of the creators of Star Trek were forward thinkers.  Why do I reprise this well-worn discussion?  It is the Borg (ST-TNG).  Not the "collective" mental consciousness, nor their penchant to destroy mankind.  No, it is the incorporation of mechanical and electronic devices with the biological to which I refer.

In 2006, The Triad’s Gift was published by the now defunct webzine, Deep Magic.  Written by Aliette de Bodard, this novella was nominated for a Nebula Award in 2007, and was one of Aliette’s first published stories.
