A tree struck by lightning relays a message.

Recently lightning struck a tree in my neighborhood and split off a whole side of it. Everyday I walked past that tree with half of its branches flat on the ground beside it. The mass of branches was still attached to a sliver of trunk but was no longer connected to the living tree at all.
For the first day or so the leaves on the downed branches were as green as ever. It was a strange sight - this horizontal half-tree lying at the feet of a normal, vertical tree. The picture always caught my attention. It seemed important somehow... continued.

Some say love is stronger than hate, but I think hate is equally as strong if not stronger, but – unlike love – is ultimately futile. Hate can play a powerful role in stories. After all, villains are often characters that readers love to hate. Plus more often than not, the antagonist and protagonist will likely hate each other, for hate tends to target those who are in direct interference with each others’ goals.
People often avoid the “H-Word” these days, especially when you see “No Hate” slogans. But aren’t there times when it’s actually okay to hate? After all, how can you not hat... continued.

What if I looked in the mirror and found my face covered with green slime that wouldn't wash off?

From the privacy of my own home an indulgent mud mask might sound inviting. It claims to make me more beautiful, clear my complexion, soften my skin. Put it on, let it do its thing, wash it off, and I'm on my way with glowing skin! Sounds safe enough.
But what if when I went to wash my face, the green slime wouldn't come off? Could I ever go out in public again? Would I be willing to go to school or the mall like this? No way! I wouldn't even want to answer the doorbell! What I had once thought I could keep private would suddenly be a source of shame!
